Andy Warhol art
Paintings, screenprints & sculptureAndy Warhol was deeply fascinated by celebrity, consumerism and repetition.. His portfolio includes some of the artworld’'s most iconic creations, drawing inspiration from popular culture and the mundane aspects of daily life. Notably, he produced renowned works such as the series of 32 Campbell's soup cans, sculptures featuring Brillo pad boxes, and portraits of iconic figures like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
Warhol departed from conventional painting and sculpting in his contemporary art scene, embracing silk-screen printmaking. This technique allowed him to establish a distinct style characterised by sharp delineations and areas of colour that appeared flat and unadorned.
Warhol's profound impact led to numerous prestigious institutions dedicating exhibitions to his work, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern, and the Centre Pompidou.
Warhol initially worked as a commercial artist for newspapers and magazines. In the 1950’s and '60s, he emerged as a central figure in the Pop Art movement, becoming one of the most significant and important artists of the 20th century. His groundbreaking works, including "Campbell's Soup Cans" (1962) and his iconic screen prints featuring Marilyn Monroe, left an indelible mark on 20th-century art.
Warhol's artistic vision revolved around consumer culture and celebrity imagery, applying commercial production processes to elevate mass production into an art form. He aimed to challenge the exclusivity associated with art and redefine the role of the artist as an integral part of a commercial system based on mass production.
In the 1960s, Warhol shifted his focus to screen printing and established "The Factory" in 1963, a hub for a diverse group of individuals, including artists, musicians, models, and more. He ventured into filmmaking, creating influential works such as "Blow Job" (1964) and "Sleep" (1963). Despite its Bohemian atmosphere, Warhol distanced himself from its unconventional elements after an assassination attempt by Valerie Solanas in 1968.
In the 1970s and '80s, Warhol returned to painting, showcasing works like his "Oxidation Paintings" series. He also mentored a new generation of emerging artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat and Francesco Clemente.Contact Andipa via sales@andipa.com or call +44 (0)20 7581 1244 for more information on our Andy Warhol original art for sale.
