Pop Shop Quad V, 1989Silkscreen68.5 x 83.5 cm.
27 x 32 7/8 in.Edition of 75Pop Shop V is a portfolio of four screenprints created by the artist in 1989. Named after Haring’s Pop Shop in New York’s SoHo district, which opened in 1986, this portfolio highlights the artist's unique visual language. Each piece in the suite delves into the interplay between humans, animals, and the natural world, infused with a spiritual undertone. Rendered in harmonious pinks and blues, the portfolio combines elements of land and sea in a playful allegory: figures interact with dolphins in various ways, swimming, riding, and walking on water with them. This interaction symbolises unity and cooperation among all creatures. The enduring charm of the Pop Shop prints lies in their vibrant, playful imagery and their ability to convey profound ideas in a straightforward manner. Haring described his work as breaking down the barriers between high and low art, and even at their most simplified, these motifs provoke thought and resonate deeply. Pop Shop Quad V highlights Haring’s unique visual style that would see the artist become a mainstay of private collectors, auction houses, galleries and museums worldwide.
