Excellent conditionUntitled No. 346 is one of four Ipad drawings turned digital prints on archival paper, which Hockney presented alongside the release of his 2017 A Bigger Book; a ‘visual autobiography’. Untitled No.346, similarly to the other three images, depicts a simple scene incorporating two of Hockney’s favourite passions: still life and flowers. Untitled No.346 focuses on the central image, similarly to Untitled No. 329, but this ornately detailed white vase, full of pink tulip buds on verdant green stems, is set against a lavender blue background. The background vibrantly enhances the still life scene, created with digital scratches and renderings that mimic sketching yet done using the Ipad ‘brushes’ app. In Untitled No.346 Hockney makes a bold move forward with a visual language that heavily draws on the traditional still life genre, recalling greats like Cezanne, yet simultaneously embraces new technology to advance the still life tradition and his own art about art discourse.
