View on a Wall
Shane was born on Christmas Day and he always felt that sharing a birthday with Jesus was a bit of an imposition on Jesus, and distracted people from the real meaning of Christmas, which was to celebrate Jesus and to remember and practice his teachings. He was brought up to be in his own words ‘a religious maniac”, saying the Rosary every evening and he views the taking of Holy Communion as an ecstatic experience, similar to taking strong drugs, and continues to take Communion every day. He was taught an unorthodox approach to Catholicism in which gambling, drinking, fornicating and almost anything that is fun is definitely not a sin. Shane considers Jesus to be a God with a sense of humour and an endless capacity for forgiveness, who would get the joke about Limerick, which is in no way intended to offend Limerick people, as Shane also loves Limerick very much."
