ANDIPA presents Flights, a new body of work by acclaimed sculptor Peter Burke. The exhibition explores the symbolism of the staircase through Burke’s considered craftsmanship, transforming an everyday architectural structure into a contemplative form evoking ascent, journeys and transition. Flights brings together sculptures, drawings and collages that reflect different stages of the artist’s creative process. The eight steel and gold leaf sculptures create a tension between industrial material and gilded surface, balancing the solidity of steel with the delicacy of gold leaf. Study drawings echo the works’ skeletal structures, offering an intimate exploration of space through line, depth and tone, while Folly collages extend architectural language through stacked, precarious forms. Together, the works position the staircase as both physical and psychological structure, a metaphor for movement, ambition and transformation, reflecting Burke’s wider practice in which industrial materials are shaped into emotionally resonant forms.

Peter Burke (b. 1944) is a British sculptor working in cast iron and steel, whose practice bridges figurative tradition and industrial modernity. Trained as a jig and tool designer with Rolls-Royce, he has developed a distinctive language that reveals process and construction while exploring the human form and condition.
